Cheerleader
Code of Conduct
In an effort
to provide a safe, fun and nurturing environment, the following guidelines will
be in place for members of the Colorado Extreme Cheerleading Competitive
Cheerleading Squad. These rules
will help promote good sportsmanship as well as aid in the formation of a close
bond between squad members while, at the same time, teaching each child to be
responsible for their own behavior and its effects on their squad.
Behavior
Under
NO circumstances is a cheerleader to make rude, snide or discriminatory comments
about a fellow squad member. If there is a problem, we need to talk it out
rather than hurt each other with words or actions.
The
topic of WEIGHT is not allowed to be discussed bewteen squad members. It does
not matter what the scale reads or what size clothes you wear. I do not want to
hear anyone talking about “weight” or using the word “fat”. This can be
a huge problem among cheerleaders and has led many a cheerleader to the path of
eating disorders. I will never tell the squad what to eat or what not to eat.
Healthy nutrition will be essential to a good performance. If they don’t get
enough nutrients, then they cannot gain the required muscle to perform such
skills as tumbling or stunting. The only recommendation I will make toward
dietary requirements is that the cheerleaders drink plenty of WATER. They will
dehydrate easily and need to learn that water is more valuable than soda, juice
or sports drinks.
Tumbling
and stunting is serious business. If the squad is not paying full attention,
someone will get hurt. There will be no talking while we are learning new
stunting and tumbling skills. This is to ensure the safety of all involved.
Nobody wants to get hurt and excessive chatter is the best formula for
accidents.
While
in and out of uniform you will behave yourselves accordingly. You represent
Colorado Extreme Cheerleading and your behavior will reflect upon the program as
a whole. While at competitions you will be supportive of your squad whether you
win or lose. When we win, we will be joyous without being haughty. If we lose,
we will do so graciously by congratulating the winning squad.
One
person does not cause the squad to win or lose. The entire squad is responsible
for the outcome of a competition. What we do, we do together. We will not place
blame for a falling stunt or a forgotten dance step. We will work together to be
the best we can, no matter what.
Practice
Practice
is mandatory. I will work with the parents to make sure that everyone gets
vacation time over the summer and during the school year. Due to our competition
schedule and the amount of work needed for our routine, each cheerleader is
expected at all scheduled practices unless prior notice has been given. If a
cheerleader becomes ill, we will need to hold extra sessions to make sure the
entire squad can practice together. If a cheerleader is excessively absent, he
or she may not be able to perform in the next competition.
Be
prepared to WORK. This means that when you are at practice I need you to listen
and follow directions. We have a very tough year ahead of us and not much time
to work. Practice time is precious and I expect each cheerleader to be
respectful and pay attention while at practice.
If
a problem arises, please come and talk to me. Anything can be worked out if I am
made aware of a problem. If I don’t know about it, I can’t fix it. If you
are having a problem with someone on the squad, please come and talk to me
before the problem can escalate.
I
have read the rules of conduct for the Colorado Extreme Cheerleading Squad. I
agree to abide by the rules of conduct while I am a member of the squad.
